Toddler Program

Our Montessori Toddler program is enchanting. We welcome children who are nearly 2 years old to 3 years old. Our toddlers blossom in a peaceful and gentle Montessori classroom with three Montessori Guides, which is above the state and county ratio requirement. Children begin their CHMS journey through building friendships, learning foundational skills, and engaging with the Montessori classroom environment.

Throughout the school day, students form bonds with one another. This can take shape as parallel play on the playground, working on a lesson next to another friend, or giving a friend a towel to wipe up spilled water. These friendships are further strengthened as children learn to speak and voice their mind in the Montessori classroom environment.

The Montessori Materials allows children to develop a wide variety of physical and intellectual skills. All lessons actively engage the child’s hand with their mind, which strengthens fine motor and gross motor skills. Children learn to navigate each subject area of the classroom, which guide children along the journey of learning phonics, spoken language, arithmetic, art, music, and dance. One-on-one lessons is a hallmark of the Montessori philosophy and allows children to receive individualized time to learn and thrive.

The purposeful nature of the Montessori classroom environment provides children with opportunities to gain confidence and independence. Since the Montessori classroom environment is designed with the child at the focus, children learn to trust their surroundings, which allows them to complete Montessori lessons and projects with confidence.

Our Preschool Program

Our Montessori Preschool program is transformative. Children who attend our Preschool program are nearly 3 year olds to 6 year olds. Some students join our Preschool program as a first-time CHMS student, and some students have Montessori classroom experience from our Montessori Toddler Program. With guidance from a AMS/AMI Montessori trained Guide, children learn the essential skills to become independent, confident, and empathic citizens prepared for Kindergarten.

The Montessori classroom environment offers countless lessons arranged on low shelves for children to choose and practice. Lessons are sequential and organized by level of difficulty, so children are able to learn at their own pace and foster a sense of independence. These experiences breed an appetite for focus and concentration, while students attain strong foundational skills in reading, writing, math, geography, and science.

Most of our students who graduate CHMS enter Kindergarten reading, writing, and completing arithmetic on a 1st and 2nd grade level. These accomplishments are the child’s choice, rather than a Montessori Guide’s decision, as each child embarks on their own CHMS journey.

Children spend a significant amount of time in the classroom receiving one on one lessons, engaging in group lessons, and practicing lessons independently. These methods of learning support a child’s confidence as s/he practices and eventually master skills in a successful manner.

Throughout the school day, children socialize with each other in formal and informal settings to make friendships, build interpersonal skills, and above all, be empathetic. Since preschool classrooms are “mixed aged’ classrooms, younger students and older students learn to listen to one another, wait their turn, say “please” and “thank you,” and offer support to friends. Learning how to show empathy and respect are cornerstones to becoming a well-rounded CHMS citizen.
